Savannah Speedway ran stock cars on the Georgia coast for two decades, a half-mile that opened as dirt in 1960, got paved, then went back to dirt at the very end. NASCAR's Grand National stars ran it ten times, and Richard Petty took three of them. One of the marquee dates was a St. Patrick's Day 200, because Savannah always did like a party. The pavement came up in 1981 and the gates closed that June, another coastal short track swallowed by time.
