Greenville-Pickens Speedway

Easley, South Carolina  ·  Twenty-eight Cup races, 1950s–1971

The first time America watched a whole NASCAR race live from green flag to checkered, it came off a half-mile in Easley, South Carolina. Greenville-Pickens Speedway put the sport on ABC in April 1971, hosted twenty-eight Cup races, and sent Richard Petty, Junior Johnson, David Pearson and Ned Jarrett to victory lane. The track closed in 2022, the infield has gone to weeds, and this spring Pickens County was arguing over whether to preserve it or let a developer have the ground.

WBTV reports twenty-eight Cup races and a last Cup race in the summer of 1971; Pickens County Council voted 4-2 on May 4, 2026, to create a track preservation committee..
